Grants from the Foundation for Applied Thermodynamics

The foundation, which was established 1993, herewith announces grants for the year of 2024.

The following excerpts from the statutes of the Foundation define what grants can be given.

1.1 The purpose of the Foundation for Applied Thermodynamics is to support research and development of thermodynamic databases and software to in different applications benefit human life, work and the environment. This should mainly happen through scholarships and grants to individual researchers.

2.2 Grants from the foundation can be applied for by researchers or research students who work with modelling, development or applications of thermodynamic calculations in the field of materials, energy, physics or chemistry. Preference should be given to purposes which benefits this activity at KTH. The purpose of the scholarship can be, for example, research projects, participation in a conference, study visits or funding of a guest researcher. In exceptional cases, funding may be granted for scientific equipment.

The application should not be longer than two pages, clearly indicating:

  • Purpose with the application (i.e. when and for what the grant will be used for)
  • Tentative budget
  • Bank details (Name and address of the receiver, BIC (Bank Identifier Code) and IBAN (International Bank Account Number))

In addition, a CV or résumé (maximum two pages) must be submitted, clearly indicating affiliation and present position of the applicant (and name of supervisor if applicable). Applications not conforming to these requirements will not be considered.

The grant shall be spent within the period 1st of April 2024 to 31st of March 2025, and a written report shall be submitted to the Foundation.

Applications shall have reached the Foundation no later than 31st of January 2024 and will be considered at a meeting in February.

Applications can only be submitted to stt∂mse.kth.se.

 

Larry Kaufman Scholarship

CALPHAD, Inc. will offer up to twenty Larry Kaufman Scholarships to students who will give presentations at the CALPHAD meeting. The scholarships will cover the registration fee for the CALPHAD meeting and accommodation. In order to apply, the following documents in PDF format must be submitted by Februar 1, 2024 by e-mail to info does-not-exist.calphad2024 kit edu. Subject line should be: Kaufman Scholarship

1. A contributed abstract to the CALPHAD meeting (note that it should also be submitted following the abstract submission procedure).

2. An application letter explaining their motivation (one page maximum).

3. A brief biographical note (one page maximum).

4. A support letter from the thesis advisor (one page maximum).
